American musician and actor Awkwafina debuted with sly rap tracks that tackled sexuality and racial identities with a the most outrageous comedy perspective prior to expanding her reach into Hollywood. Nora Lum is the daughter of Chinese as well as Korean parents in Forest Hills Queens. The trumpet was the first instrument she played for her. Later, she began traditional and hip-hop training. In the college years, she remained focused on her studies. She majored both in women's study and journalism. While she was for a brief amount during her time in Beijing, Mandarin language classes were also offered. She turned her attention towards music after she completed her degree. The year 2012 saw My Vag (as a retort to Mickey Avalon's My Dick) became an internet hit and was included in her debut LP Yellow Ranger. The album also contained viral hits, such as body-positive Queef & winking home tour NYC Bitche$1. This latter song was directly tied to Awkwafina's NYC, a 2015 travel guide. Her resume included both musicians and an author. Now she was looking to further her career in acting. Along with early series like Girl Code, Tawk and Bad Rap she also appeared in films like Neighbors as well as Storks. She had a breakthrough role in the year 2018, with several high profile films, including Dude Ocean's 8 and Crazy Rich Asians. It was in June that she released her first film In Fina We Trust.
